St. Catherine's Church of Lomice

St. Catherine’s Catholic Church of Lomice was named after the town of Lomice Czechoslovakia and was built in 1934-36. The stone was gathered locally and built with the blueprints of the pastor; he wanted an attractive church built of stone like those in the old country so that they might remember the “fatherland." Slated for closure and demolition, the local supporters approached PND to help find a solution. An affiliate was organized and a dialogue initiated with the Eastern Catholic Diocese. Eventually, through their enduring efforts, the diocese sold the building to the local group for preservation.

Currently the building is being used for one Sunday service a year, and special events and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

This Prairie Churches Grassroots Grant has assisted with repairing and staining the cedar shingles.
