Melby Heritage Society
The Melby Heritage Society is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, more specifically to preserve the history and architecture of Manfred, ND.
There are several buildings in the process of being restored through this affiliate:
1. The exterior of the Olaf and Lena Anderson House: The roof has been shingled, and the porch rebuilt. Scraping and painting remain projects for next summer.
2. The exterior of the Hotel Johnson and display windows:
Painting of the south and west side of the Hotel Johnson building have been completed this summer (2010); also signage “Johnson Hotel” was added. In addition, a boardwalk similar to the original boardwalk, was added. Grant funds from PND were received for a portion of this work.
It is anticipated the east side of the Hotel Johnson will receive two more coats of paint the summer of 2011, with the north side still in need of two more coats of paint as well.
3. The exterior of the Johnson Place/Peterson Grocery Store:
The roof of this building has been redone. Exterior carpentry and work on the tin remain as future projects.
